Modern Curtains 2011

Modern Curtains 2011

Modern curtains have come a long way from the old traditional curtains. Modern curtains can range from informal to formal, depending on the room you want to dress up. Modern curtains also come in wide range of fabrics such as, cotton, silk, rayon, polyester blends and much more. As there are many fabric choices, there are also many design choices as well. You will find modern curtains in colors of solid, stripes, floral and many other designs with different textures as well as modern curtains lined & unlined.

Silk curtains work well if you want and elegant look for your windows. Silk can be used in the living room as well as the bedroom and dining area. Cotton modern curtains are a very versatile fabric that goes well in the kitchen, living room, bedroom or any other room in your home. Cotton modern curtains are probably the easiest to clean when it comes to curtain care and can come in many textures.

Modern curtains are best when they are simple. When going for a simple modern curtain, think in terms of light, airy and without all the frills such as valances. Simple does not mean that your modern curtain has to be boring. If you want to add height to a window, buy curtains that touch the floor. This will elongate the window area and provide a more flowing feel.

You can go to your local fabric store and look for fabrics that suit your taste. This will give you the option of creating your own modern curtain. Fabrics bought at a fabric store and hand made by you will save you the cost of purchasing modern curtains online or at a department store. You will have the satisfaction of having your own customized modern curtain, that you personally had a hand in creating.

Choosing Curtains That Look Good

Choosing Curtains That Look Good

When you choose curtains you need to look objectively at the entire room because you want your curtains to complement your décor yet serve a purpose also. You may want curtains to reduce street noise or to reduce the light that comes into the room. You may need them for privacy or you may want them as a part of your room décor to enhance your furnishings.

So when you decide on curtains you will have to measure the windows. If you are getting a heavier material for your curtains you need to make sure that it will drape well. The fabric must be heavy enough to hang properly because if it does not hang properly it will look as if you took curtains from another window and just put them up to have something to cover your windows. If you are choosing a thin or light material you want to make sure there is enough fabric to hang and properly cover the windows. By skimping on the thinner fabric for the curtains it makes the curtains look really cheap.

If you measure your windows it is suggested that you add one foot to your measurements to get enough fabric to both hang properly and drape nicely. You also want to make sure your curtains don’t look garish in the room so color coordination or contrast is the best way to go. In a smaller room you may want neutral curtains so they don’t diminish the room but instead basically neutralize it.
